‘Alcoholics are noisy than weed smokers’ – MP Peter Salasya

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has suggested that weed smokers are generally peaceful compared to alcohol drinkers whom he described as rowdy and unruly.

In a statement on his Instagram account on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the lawmaker went as far as to propose legalizing marijuana while banning alcohol altogether.

“People who take weed do not cause problems than those taking alcohol. Weed can be legalised but alcohol can be banned. Watu wanakunywa pombe hupenda kelele sana than wa bangi,” Salasya said.

Youth

Salasya’s sentiments build on his earlier remarks in March 2024 during the government’s crackdown on illicit alcohol. At the time, he urged young people to avoid alcohol if they could not handle it responsibly.

He cautioned that excessive and uncontrolled drinking could harm individuals’ lives. The lawmaker expressed particular concern about certain establishments selling alcohol to young people during daytime hours, which promotes early-morning drinking habits.

He called for government intervention to close down these outlets and hold their owners accountable.

“If you are out there and you know you are someone who cannot control alcohol, avoid it because alcohol can destroy your life. Some people take alcohol, they go to joints very early in the name of ‘kutoa lock,’” Salasya said.

“I want to join the government to ensure that the illicit alcohol outlets selling during the day are all shut and owners arrested.”

Salasya on daytime drinking

This will not be the first time Salasya has talked about alcohol. and his relationship with it.

Back in September 2024, he proudly declared his newfound discipline when it comes to drinking noting that he had stopped drinking during the day.
