Phuket’s vibrant cabaret scene is being hailed as a significant contributor to the province’s economy, with the potential to generate over 200 million baht annually.
Phuket Governor Sophon Suwanrat highlighted the substantial impact of the Simon Cabaret Phuket Show during its reopening in the Kathu district yesterday. This year has marked a resurgence for tourism in Phuket, and the numbers are impressive.
By the end of October, Phuket had welcomed 10.5 million tourists, bringing in a staggering 390 billion baht. The governor expressed confidence that by the year’s end, tourism revenue would reach 450 billion baht, nearing the figures from 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted global travel.
Local police have taken steps to bolster the infrastructure essential for supporting the influx of tourists. Improvements to roads and the mass transit system are underway. The Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation announced plans to introduce 24 electric buses by the end of January, aiming to facilitate smoother travel for residents and visitors.
“Simon Cabaret Phuket is already a form of soft power. It is quite rare to have such a business that has been operating for over 30 years, welcoming more than 600,000 tourists from all over the world.”

Pornthep Rouyrin, vice chairman of Phuket Simon Cabaret, shared insights into the cabaret’s origins. Initially, the concept started in Pattaya, Chon Buri.
“My parents expanded it to a full-fledged transgender show theatre. They thought Phuket was a tourist province like Pattaya, so they bought land in Patong to build the Simon Cabaret Phuket Theatre. It was opened in 1991, and today, 33 years later, it stands as the first theatre in Phuket.”
