In a groundbreaking move to tackle tourist road accidents in Thailand, 7-Eleven is stepping up its game. Yesterday, December 2, CP All CEO Yuthasak Poomsurakul announced a partnership between 7-Eleven, the Tourist Police Bureau, and the British Embassy to launch a road safety campaign aimed at international visitors.

Tourists, often unaware of Thailand’s traffic laws and risky road conditions, face dangers like driving without helmets or under the influence. To address these issues, over 155 7-Eleven outlets in 18 provinces, covering major tourist hubs will serve as safety information centres.

Posters, point-of-sale screen messages, and staff guidance will educate visitors on traffic laws, helmet use, and accident insurance, said Yuthasak.

“This initiative builds on our role as a tourist assistance hub.”

Police Lieutenant General Saksira Phuak-am, Chief of the Tourist Police, stressed that road safety is crucial during peak travel seasons.

“Accidents often stem from tourists’ lack of driving experience or unfamiliarity with local rules.”

Tourist Police will also ramp up checks on vehicle rentals and public transport to prevent mishaps, reported Pattaya News.

British Consul Joanne Finnamore-Crorkin echoed the urgency.

“With over 870,000 Brits visiting Thailand in 2023, road safety remains a top priority for us. This campaign will boost visitor confidence and support Thai tourism recovery.”
