Everything we know about the ROG Xbox Ally & ROG Xbox Ally X

Xbox and Asus have partnered to make the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, giving fans the Xbox handheld they’ve always wanted in the process.

Xbox fans have spent years begging Microsoft to release their own branded handheld, and on June 8, 2025, it was finally revealed during the Xbox Showcase.

The Seattle-based gaming company has partnered with Asus to bring fans the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, new versions of the company’s existing handhelds.

Here’s everything we know about the new Xbox gaming device.

The handheld was revealed during the Xbox Showcase on June 8, 2025, in the first trailer for the device.

Release Window

According to Xbox, the ROG Ally and ROG Ally X will release sometime in the 2025 holiday season. We’ll have to wait for the exact date to be revealed, however.

ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X price speculation

Another thing Xbox has not revealed yet is the price. However, as Asus already has older models of the ROG Ally available, we have a good idea of what to expect.

The current ROG Ally starts at $500 while the ROG Ally X starts at $800. Given that the Xbox-branded devices have higher specs, we can expect them to be a little higher in price than the current ROG Ally lineup.

On top of running Windows 11, Microsoft has revealed a new Xbox software experience that will launch with the ROG Xbox Ally devices.

Instead of loading straight into the Windows desktop, it will instead open into a new version of the Xbox app that will handle almost everything you’ll need to do on the handheld, just like how Valve’s Steam Deck opens straight into Steam.
