Ex-Citizen TV Anchor & RMS Boss Hired To Boost Popularity Of NTV, Nation FM

The Head of Broadcasting will be responsible for the overall business performance of the Nation Broadcasting Division in Kenya.

The Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced the appointment of Simaloi Dajom as the new Head of Broadcasting, effective August 12, 2024.

Per a notice seen by Viral Tea on Friday, August 2, Dajom will also lead the development and execution of the broadcast strategy to drive the growth of the regional media house’s television and radio station ratings, including NTV and Nation FM, and market share in Kenya.

“Simaloi is a highly skilled media professional with extensive experience in recruitment, retention and growing audiences across all media platforms, and has a track record in media production, programming, developing content strategies, business development, growing impactful media brands and developing talent,” the notice read in part.

Her knowledge extends to digital transformation, talent development, mentorship, and executive coaching.

Dajom previously held senior management positions in the media, notably at Royal Media Services (RMS) as Group Head of Production, Programmes Manager, and Deputy Director of Radio, and at Mediamax Network as Chief Content & Strategy Officer. 

She has also served as Head of Media Strategy & Content at Switch TV, now called Switch Media. Her impressive career trajectory also includes serving as a Deputy Director for 14 stations at Royal Media Services (RMS) where she played a pivotal role in content production and editing.

Her passion for journalism and reporting shone through during her time as a news anchor at Citizen TV, where she educated the public about national, world, and local events while following current affairs and presenting news stories in an informative, interesting, and unbiased manner.

She holds a Diploma in Radio and Television Content Production from Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), is an alumnus of Business Daily Top-40-Under-40 and is a board member of Films Without Borders (UK).

Dajom successfully managed, mentored, and trained over 700 media personalities, including radio and TV personalities, digital content creators, producers, journalists, news editors, presenters, sales executives, media owners, executives, and station managers in Kenya and across Africa.

In other appointments, Russell Akuom joined NMG as Chief Information Officer (CIO) effective August 1, 2024.

In his role, he will provide digital transformation leadership to accelerate the pace of execution of NMG’s digital initiatives aimed at the attainment of the Group’s Digital North Star, alongside transitioning the company into a digital-first media house, championing enhancement of user experience on NMG’s digital platforms, driving innovation and institutionalising a culture of digital excellence across the organisation.

“In addition, the CIO will be responsible for alignment of technology and data strategies with the Group’s long-term goals to make data and technology key enablers of our success.

“Russell brings along extensive experience in digital transformation, product management, technology strategy, innovation as well as business process optimization and has a track record in implementing digital solutions across diverse markets, driving strategic initiatives, and aligning technology with business goals. He is passionate about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and has been involved in the development of various Al-powered solutions,” added the notice.

The appointments mark the first under interim NMG Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Tobiko, who took over from Stephen Gitagama who resigned at the end of July 2024.
