He was appointed to the County Executive in 2022 after Governor Ndeti won the gubernatorial elections.

Ndeti sacks Chief of staff

Yumbya resigned just weeks after Ndeti dismissed Machakos County chief of staff Lawrence Ngovi.

In a three-paragraph resignation letter, Yumbya declined to give reasons for his exit.

“Reference is made to the above. I hereby tender my resignation as the County Executive Member for Health effective from the date of this letter,” Yumbya’s letter read in part.

Adding: “I wish to thank you for the opportunity you accorded me to serve in your cabinet.”

The former Health CECM noted that a time for him to resign had come, urging against speculations on the reasons behind his move to exit the county executive.

“I resigned to come and join the County Government of Machakos as a minister. I have served with diligence and to my ability.

“However, today I want to say that, as the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3: There is time for everything; time to cry and time to laugh; there is a time to come in and a time to leave; my time to leave the department as Minister for Health in Machakos County Government has come,” Yumbya told the press on August 1, 2024.
