The case, a consolidation of Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine and Danco Laboratories LLC v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, addressed the FDA’s ability to regulate mifepristone, one of two drugs commonly used in medication abortions, which now account for more than 60% of all U.S. abortions and have become a prime target of anti-abortion activists. A coalition of abortion opponents had tried to convince the Supreme Court to reverse a series of FDA actions to expand access to the drug, such as allowing abortion providers to direct mifepristone to patients — a request that met with skepticism among the judges in the fight against abortion. the arguments of March.

A ruling for abortion opponents could also have affected all drugs regulated by the FDA, including other types of politicized drugs such as vaccines, HIV drugs, and drugs used in gender-affirming health care.
