Nintendo’s Switch 2 tutorial game, Welcome Tour, requires hundreds of dollars worth of accessories to complete every part of the $10 game.
The Switch 2 finally releases on June 5, 2025, and during its initial reveal, Nintendo announced Welcome Tour – a game that helps walk you through every feature of the new console.
It costs $10 to purchase, and according to a recent announcement from Nintendo Japan, it’ll cost players significantly more to complete the tutorial-like game.
According to the game’s official website, Switch 2 owners must purchase several official accessories and potentially even a new TV to check out every feature of the new hybrid console.
Switch 2 Welcome Tour requires hundreds of dollars in accessories
“Some mini-games and tech demos require peripherals and a 4K-capable TV, sold separately,” says the website.
According to Nintendo, you must have the new USB Camera, a controller with GL/GR buttons like the Switch 2 Pro Controller or Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip, and a 4K capable tv to check out the console’s new higher resolution.
Those looking to complete the game will have to spend a significant amount of money on accessories, assuming you don’t already have the 4K-capable television.
According to Walmart, an Onn brand 4K resolution TV comes in at just under $200, while a bigger brand like TCL or Samsung can go for around $350 to $500. If you want the latest in screen technology, however, an LG OLED 4K TV goes for just under $1000.
Meanwhile, Nintendo’s new USB camera accessory comes in at another $55, while the Switch 2 Pro controller is a staggering $85, and the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip is $40.
News of the required accessories quickly made its way to social media, prompting a response from users on Reddit in the process.
One user asked: “Dumb as this is, who the hell cares about 100%ing a tutorial anyway?”
“This is the tutorial that you have to pay for? And now it also requires the expensive accessories as well?” replied a second.
A third user mentioned that it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but agreed the game itself should be free.
“Sounds like a nothingburger for me. While I agree with everyone that this ‘game’ should be free, if a demonstration requires a webcam, and turns out you need a webcam (duh),” they said.
This comes just one day before the Switch 2 releases, and two since Nintendo issued a warning about not removing the included screen protector.
