The Multinational Security Support Mission to Haiti (MSS) and the Haitian National Police (HNP) have reopened the Liancourt Police Station, which has been shut for the last five years due to gang aggression.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, MSS said the station was reopened following continuous day and night patrols in key areas, including Carrefour Paye, Route Coloniale, Bois Dutre Jette, Fosse Cheval, Allée Nan Parent, Allée Père Josephat, Villard, L’Estère, and Liancourt.
“The MSS reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the Haitian population, not only in restoring normalcy in Port-au-Prince but also in Pont-Sonde. While focused and purposeful security operations continued in Port-au-Prince, significant patrols and engagements were also carried out in Pont-Sonde,” the statement read in part.
“The MSS and the Haitian National Police (HNP) conducted continuous day and night patrols in key areas, including Carrefour Paye, Route Coloniale, Bois Dutre Jette, Fosse Cheval, Allée Nan Parent, Allée Père Josephat, Villard, L’Estère, and Liancourt.”
MSS reports that in addition to security patrols, the MSS and HNP collaborated with local residents to fill potholes along Route Coloniale at Carrefour Paye.
“These potholes had been causing difficulties for farmers transporting their produce. Later, the Police Commissioner of Gonaïves arrived with his convoy, and MSS and HNP teams escorted them to Liancourt. This led to the deployment of police officers and the reopening of the Liancourt Police Station, which had previously been abandoned due to gang aggression,” the statement added.
“The reopening of the station was met with widespread applause from the local community, who recognised this achievement as a result of the strong collaboration between MSS and HNP. Cheers erupted as the Police Commissioner of Gonaïves cut the ribbon to mark the official reopening of the station.”

The locals, according to MSS, mobilised to clean and improve the station area, making it a more welcoming and functional space.
“The MSS extends its sincere gratitude to the residents of Pont-Sonde for their consistent cooperation and support of the security teams working to restore peace and stability in the area,” MSS added.
