Inooro FM’s Professor Ngugi Njoroge Is Dead

Until his passing, the renowned media personality hosted a late-night show named ‘Keera’ at Inooro FM, a radio station under the umbrella of Royal Media Services (RMS).

Veteran radio presenter and political commentator, Professor Ngugi Njoroge is dead. He passed away on Monday morning, July 29.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua announced on his social media platforms, and in his eulogy, revealed that he learnt with deep sadness the passing on of his longtime friend.

Until his passing, the renowned media personality hosted a late-night show named ‘Keera‘ at Inooro FM, a radio station under the umbrella of Royal Media Services (RMS).

Gachagua further praised him for his invite to the show as a guest interviewee and enjoyed the discussions he had with him.

“An industrious academician, Professor Njoroge was a prolific political commentator, who has greatly contributed to educative, informative and insightful discussions on the development discourse of our Nation with his razor-edge oratory skills on Inooro FM‘s Keera Show and other platforms. 

“I had the privilege of being hosted by Prof Njoroge on this informative show; we enjoyed quality discussions as was his characteristic,” he wrote in part.

According to Gachagua, Prof Njoroge redefined the role of the media in driving development. Beyond the profession, the departed “was profusely humorous, warm and charming.”

“His nuggets of wisdom will be immensely missed. Heartfelt condolences to Professor Njoroge’s family, colleagues at the Royal Media Services and Inooro FM, friends and relatives for this big loss,” he added.

On the other hand, Isaac Mwaura, the government spokesperson, mourned the Professor as a great connoisseur of local knowledge and history. 

Reports from his colleagues at the station and the media fraternity indicated that the professor passed on at his home before dawn. However, they did not disclose the veteran scholar and journalist’s cause of death.

Prof Njoroge’s passing is among the series of losses to the media fraternity over the past few weeks.

On July 23, vernacular radio presenter Mercy Mawia passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi. She worked at Mbaitu FM and was mourned as a distinguished journalist who made an impact in the media industry.

On July 27, two presenters from Thome FM died following a fatal road accident along the Sagana-Makutano Highway. 

According to the media station, the two journalists namely Stephen Waigwa and Caroline Nyarwai had just celebrated the radio’s 4th anniversary moments before the accident.
