General Information

  • Post Title: Junior Professional Officer, Climate Information and Early Warning
  • Grade: P2
  • Division/Unit: Early Warning and Assessment Division, Climate Early Warning and Capacity Building Unit
  • Location: Nairobi, Kenya
  • Duration: One-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a maximum of two years

Background Information

  • UNEP is the leading global environmental authority, promoting sustainable development and environmental policy.
  • The Early Warnings and Assessment Division (EWAD) provides early warning information and assesses global and regional environmental trends.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Draft project concepts, proposals, and related documents for various global funding sources.
  • Support the oversight and management of existing projects.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies and materials.
  • Compile progress reports and prepare outreach materials.
  • Research donor priorities and monitor project pipeline progress.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in environment, climate change, meteorology, sustainable development, or a related field.
  • Skills: Fluency in English, good writing and presentation skills, knowledge of French is an advantage, excellent ICT skills.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience at the national level, or 2 years at the international level, in related fields. Experience with project development, climate information, or early warning systems is advantageous.

  • Location: Nairobi, Kenya
  • Methodology: Regular feedback, guidance, and mentoring, with structured performance evaluations.
