Floyd Mayweather has conquered the ring but now he has ventured into the world of luxury spirits… here’s what happened when we opened a bottle of the boxing icon’s Good Money Whiskey

Known for his impeccable track record in the boxing ring and his larger than life personality outside of it, Floyd Mayweather has successfully ventured into the world of spirits with his Good Money Whisky brand.

Good Money Whisky is a new brand launched in 2024 as part of Mayweather’s growing portfolio of luxury brands that embodies his life philosophy: hard work, dedication and enjoying the good things in life.

By venturing into the whisky market, Mayweather wanted to offer a premium product that would appeal to both whisky connoisseurs and fans of his illustrious career.

So we had to try it ourselves.

Mail Sport flew to Las Vegas to join Mayweather in the city that never sleeps, joining 8 Cigar Lounge located in Resort World for its Whisky for good money.

“Every adult wants something tasty to drink. And guess what? Together with my team, we developed and sourced the best exclusive products we could find to offer to the public,” Mayweather said.

It wasn’t long before Mayweather climbed behind the bar and cracked open a bottle of the brand’s flagship product, a 10-year-old Canadian whisky, known for its rich, smooth flavour and complex aroma.

Mayweather, who won world titles in five different weight classes during his illustrious career, explained how the aging process imparts the deep flavors of butterscotch, spice and vanilla into the product, making it a favorite among whiskey lovers.

The undefeated champion then explained how the highly sought-after brand offers a five-year-old variant, which while younger, still has a robust and refined flavour, making it accessible to a wider audience.

The association with Mayweather’s lifestyle – one of opulence, success and sophistication – also has an influence Good Money Whisky as a premium product. He prides himself on being the best boxer to ever walk the planet and now he insists his whisky will do the same by becoming the best brand on the market.

“It’s like boxing,” he said confidently as he poured another drink. “I had the best team, so I got the best results. I also have the best team for my brands. Just try it and you’ll see.”

Mayweather then explained why his brand is different from other celebrities who have ventured into the alcohol world, and he said it had everything to do with his stock investment.

“I don’t want to speak ill of celebrities who have launched a product, but there is a clear difference between them and me. Often celebrities are promoting someone else’s products. They don’t have any property or equity.

“Of course I have business partners that are involved in this, but do I have a crazy percentage of this? Of course I do. Absolutely. I didn’t do all this by myself, I had to have a team, but I am central to the brand.

“Of course my father helped me. My uncles helped me. My partners helped me. There were so many pieces of the puzzle, but I was involved in every step.”

MAYWEATHER’S GOOD MONEY WHISKEY

The Good Money is a global brand created in direct partnership with Floyd Mayweather.

The packaging of Good Money Whisky also reflects the high-end positioning. The bottles are elegantly designed, with clean lines and refined labeling that exude luxury.

‘I am extreme in these kinds of things. For example, I personally take pride in looking well-groomed.

The brand has also made significant inroads into high-end bars, restaurants and clubs, particularly in Las Vegas, where Mayweather’s influence is strongest. But the Money team is exploring opportunities for international expansion, targeting markets in Europe and Asia, where premium American whiskey is in high demand.

When asked what the long-term goal was for both brands, Mayweather said, “It’s all about growth, it’s about giving people all over the world a great product. The ultimate goal is to have it everywhere in the world.

For example with The good Argentit’s not sparkling wine. It comes from the Champagne region in France. Often people bottle sparkling wine and claim it’s champagne. This is champagne, this is the best. We have the best on the market, without a doubt.’

As for Mayweather’s whiskey, the 10-year-old Canadian Whiskey in particular has received positive reviews from critics and consumers alike. Its rich flavor, smooth finish, and overall quality have been praised, earning it a respectable spot in the competitive whiskey market.

While Mayweather Le Bon Argent champagne ranks in the top 90%, with the rose receiving a 95% score for its bright, natural flavors.

“I’m very particular about certain things, especially my products. When they first brought the champagne to me, I wanted to make changes, I wanted to make sure it was the best.

‘Me and my two best friends traveled around the world and I saw a lot of people drinking Moet. I saw people drinking Perrier-Jouet Rose. But we wanted to create something that was better.

“The first time, when we tested the product, we thought no. We wanted to make sure we had the best product, so we made a lot of changes. We told them to go back, do some more homework, and come up with a better product.

“Don’t get me wrong, we wanted to get our products out there and get them to market, but we decided to wait until it was perfect. Once they got the product right, we knew right away and decided to go ahead with it.”

It’s safe to say that the Good Money products are more than just a business venture for Mayweather; they’re an extension of his legacy. By creating a premium whiskey and champagne brand, Mayweather has successfully translated his values of hard work, excellence and luxury into a product that resonates with consumers.

Mayweather is set to return to the ring this summer for a rematch against John Gotti III, the grandson of the late mob boss. Mayweather first faced the 31-year-old in June 2023, when the bout ended in chaos after a brawl broke out as people stormed the ring.

When asked why he initially gave Gotti the chance to fight him, he told Mail Sport: ‘I got the chance a few years ago but it didn’t work out.

“I’ve known the Gotti Family for years. I usually do my shows overseas, but when I had one in the States, I gave him a chance because he was tough and his dream was to fight me one day, even though he mainly fights MMA.”

Mayweather also revealed how much money he typically makes from exhibition fights, claiming that he currently has offers of $300 million on his phone.

“I have plenty of offers that I can show you on my phone. $300 million, $100 million, $50 million, $20 million, $17 million. They’re all offers that are on my phone right now. It all depends, but if you pay, we’ll play. It’s that simple.”
