‘The Kenya we want can only achieved through fidelity to the constitution’ – Governor Orengo

Siaya Governor James Orengo has called on leaders to uphold the rule of law and abide by the constitution.

In a statement shared on Saturday, July 27, 2024, Orengo noted that by upholding the two, the country will move towards the right direction.

He went on to express his unwavering support for the youth leading the anti-government protests stating that he concurs with them that a brand new Kenya is possible.

“The Kenya we want will only be achieved through fidelity to the constitution and rule of law. I support our Gen Z when they say; a brand new Kenya is possible,” he wrote.

Orengo’s remarks come amid a quest for revolution among the Kenyan youth countrywide.

The undeterred determination for a new dawn was catalysed by the initial quest that sought the withdrawal of the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Sustained protests rocked the country forcing President William Ruto to drop the contentious bill, however, the youth followed with different demands including the resignation of the president, the firing of Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) over incompetence, action against police who shot unarmed protesters among others.

Following the heightened demonstrations, the Head of State fired his entire cabinet leaving the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and vowed to form a broad-based government.

Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” Ruto announced on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

In honour of his promise to the public, the president announced the nominated CSs to his new cabinet, they included some CSs retained from his previous cabinet and some opposition leaders sparking public debate.

Speaking on his choice of nominees today, the Head of State affirmed that his new cabinet is meant to unite all Kenyans.

“…Na ndio sababu juzi nimeweka baraza la mawaziri ya kuwaunganisha wakenya kutoka sehemu zote, kwa sababu waswahili wanasema umoja ni nguvu. Tuungane ndio tukabiliane na changamoto za Kenya, tupange maendeleo pamoja,” Ruto said.
