Married At First Sight relationship expert Mel Schilling posted a sad update on social media on Saturday about her health as she battles colon cancer.

The 52-year-old relationship therapist announced in December that she had been diagnosed with cancer and had undergone surgery and chemotherapy after experiencing symptoms, saying the cancer left her feeling exhausted.

Alongside a photo of herself looking sad and frowning at the camera after a long day of filming, she wrote some heartbreaking words: ‘This is me. Completely exhausted after a long day on set.

‘Exhausted, but satisfied and ready for a long rest.’

She concluded her reflective post with a few more positive words: “Cancer is tough… but I am stronger.”

Mel also shared a photo of herself looking glamorous after her hair and makeup were done, captioning it with some happy thoughts: “A few hours later… Different hair, different look, different lighting.”

This comes after Mel opened up about the torment she went through before being diagnosed with cancer.

Mel told new! magazine in March about the severe pain she felt while at work. She said: ‘I was doubled over and screaming – the pain was so intense.’

Her doctors initially thought she was constipated, but she soon became concerned when she lost her appetite.

Mel told how she was in ‘so much pain’ during a trip to Ireland with her husband Gareth and struggled to keep food and water down.

Knowing something was still wrong, she went to a gastroenterologist on her return to London, who was ‘concerned’ about her unexplained weight loss.

Mel underwent a CT scan and returned a few days later for the results, and she still remembers the heartbreaking moment when she was told she had cancer.

She said: ‘We were sitting in his office and the doctor looked at me with a blank stare and I thought, “This doesn’t seem right,” and he said, “It’s cancer.” I think I was numb, I couldn’t process it and I went into work mode, that was all I could focus on.’

The reality TV host revealed in December that she was struggling with her health and underwent bowel surgery just before the end of the year.

She explained that her tumour, which she named ‘Terry’, had been removed by British doctors. But when the cancer spread through her colon to the muscle, Mel discovered she needed chemotherapy and began treatment in late February.
