Morara Kebaso calls out Kenyans discouraging upcoming leaders

Political activist Morara Kebaso has faulted a section of Kenyans who have been discouraging and pulling down upcoming leaders.

In a statement on Sunday, November 24, 2024, Kebaso accused Kenyans of being the enemies of change that Kenya needs.

“Leaders are coming up to change Kenya. You are busy pulling them down. Insulting and mocking them. Undermining their effort. But you are not ready to step up and be courageous like them. You are the reason Ruto is still in power,” Kebaso stated.

This comes a day after Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah registered his interest in unseating President William Ruto in 2027.

However, his interest in the top seat was met with mixed reactions, with a section of Kenyans claiming the senator did not have enough resources and backing from Kenyans to unseat Ruto.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei was among Kenyans who discouraged Omtata, telling him that he needs at least Ksh7 billion to stage a presidential campaign.

“While I wish you well in your Presidential bid there are few things you need to be aware of such as to run a successful presidential campaign you need a minimum of Ksh7B,” Cherargei stated on X.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, Omtata announced a 10-member committee to spearhead his 2027 campaigns.

“This committee will thoroughly assess the viability of my candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. Its primary focus will be to engage with the public, gather input on the most pressing challenges facing our nation, and determine how best to address these issues with bold and innovative leadership,” Omtatah said.

Kebaso announces his candidature

Kebaso, in a statement on social media on Monday, November 18, 2024, announced that he would be vying for president.

The young politician says he will be banking on the Kenyan youth to win the top seat.

“I will run for president of the Republic of Kenya. My tribe is the youth of Kenya,” he stated.

Kebaso and Omtata join a couple of politicians who are eying the presidency in 2027 including Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Party, Raila Odinga of ODM, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and the incumbent William Ruto.
