It’s a huge day for Harry Potter fans – the upcoming HBO TV show has found its new Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
The wizarding trio were originally brought to life on the big screen by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson in the infamous movie series, which proved to be just as popular as the books – and some of the highest-grossing films of all time.
However, now it’s time to adapt the stories for a new generation, with HBO commissioning a 10-year, seven-season show scheduled to debut in 2027. In April, six key cast members were announced, including John Lithgow as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall.
But now the big guns have arrived, with three child stars set to usher in a new era and become three of the biggest stars of all time.
Harry Potter TV show announces Harry, Hermione, and Ron stars
Newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have joined the Harry Potter TV show cast as the titular wizard, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod said in a statement: “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron.
“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
The new TV show is said to be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, with each season bringing Harry Potter to new and existing audiences.
Who is Dominic McLaughlin?
As per the casting call, Dominic McLaughlin is between the age of nine and 11, meaning he’s relatively new to the acting world. However, he does have another credit to his name: the upcoming comedy movie Grow.
McLaughlin is playing a character named Oliver Gregory in the film, which is directed by John McPhail. Funnily enough, it also stars fellow Harry Potter series cast member Nick Frost, who’s taking on the role of Rubeus Hagrid.
Harry Potter is his first major gig, and one that will no doubt catapult him to worldwide fame as it did Daniel Radcliffe.
Who is Arabella Stanton?
Much like McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton was one of more than 30,000 kids who auditioned to play the Hogwarts trio. And much like McLaughlin, she is a newcomer to the on-screen world.
However, despite her young age, she does have a number of stage credits to her name. In 2024, she appeared in London’s West End as Control in Starlight Express and Matilda in Matilda The Musical.
Who is Alastair Stout?
Alastair Stout is the only of the three who has no TV or movie credits just yet, but he did appear in Albert Bartlett’s Roll On Jersey Royal Season advert, which you can watch in the clip above (he’s the kid eating dinner).
