US President Donald Trump marked his country’s Memorial Day with a controversial post on Truth Social, referring to his political rivals as “scum,” labeling federal judges as “USA hating” and “monsters,” and calling former President Joe Biden “incompetent.”
In a post dated May 26, Trump wrote in all caps: “HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS.”
Using the occasion to reinforce his immigration and deportation agenda, Trump accused Biden of enabling an influx of migrants. He claimed that judges are intentionally keeping “murderers, drug dealers, rapists, gang members, and released prisoners from all over the world” in the United States, allowing them to commit crimes again. Trump further alleged that these judges harbour animosity toward the country and follow a destructive philosophy.
Since the beginning of his second term, Trump has frequently clashed with the judiciary, facing both criticism and support. These ongoing tensions have been described by observers as a constitutional crisis.
He also claimed that 21 million people have entered the U.S. illegally during the Biden administration—a figure previously mentioned by CNN but not substantiated by official data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Later in the day, Trump is expected to commemorate Memorial Day in a traditional manner by visiting Arlington National Cemetery in northern Virginia. There, he is to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the ‘Unknown Soldier’ and deliver remarks at the cemetery’s amphitheatre.
The Memorial Day message followed Trump’s partisan-leaning commencement address at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. In his speech, he praised his previous election victory while wearing a red “Make America Great Again” cap and a pink tie.
