An Oregon mother is fighting for her life after being attacked by a pack of dogs, with facial injuries too severe to show.

Mytoka Petry was attacked by eight dogs on the morning of July 15 in North Portland while police officers responded to a medical call at a homeless camp.

Petry lost an arm and an ear in the brutal attack and was rushed to hospital. Two other people who tried to intervene were also injured.

The eight animals have now been arrested and are currently being held pending a formal investigation.

Since the incident, friends and family have been GoFundMe Page to help her family while she is in intensive care. They covered her badly injured face with a heart emoji.

According to GoFundMe, doctors now fear she could also lose her eye. She has undergone five surgeries in seven days.

Good friend Julana Torres told KGW: ‘Nobody should have to be exposed to that or be on the verge of nearly losing their life because they’re taking a little walk.’

Torres told the newspaper she was “in complete shock” when she first heard news of the attack.

She added: ‘I couldn’t say anything, I was speechless, because it just didn’t seem real.’

“This is a member of our community, a Portland native, a mother of two daughters, who has dedicated herself to her community.

“She was a nurse. She’s a caregiver. She’s a loving person. And what happened to her is just horrible.”

While friend Kristine Rebber told KOIN: ‘Someone has to be responsible. This is tragic. There is no reason why she shouldn’t have been there.’

Rebber said that while Petry is in stable condition, those closest to her have been told they still have a long road ahead of them.

She added: ‘She could be in the ICU for months. And right now there’s so much room for infection or other complications that she’s not out of the woods yet.’

Police in the city report that no arrests have yet been made in the case.

Portland has become synonymous with crime and urban decay in recent years.

The progressive Oregon city is plagued by homeless camps and the crime that comes with them, including drug abuse and murder.

In Portland, the number of murders reached a record high in 2022.

Progressive Democrat Mike Schmidt was elected in the summer of 2020.

But earlier this year he was fired after voters turned against him over his “equality” policies, which they said were too lenient on crime.

He was removed from office by Assistant District Attorney Nathan Vasquez, who promised to clean up the city and take tougher action against crimes that affect the quality of life of local residents.
