Edwin Sifuna demands justice for women killed in the last 3 months

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has demanded justice for victims of femicide in the last three months.

In a statement after visiting the family of Vivian Kajaya, the 22-year-old Mount Kenya University student who was murdered and dumped in a maize field in Nakuru County, Sifuna urged the national police to beef up security in the country and put to an end the numerous killings.

Sifuna was accompanied by Gatina MCA Ken Swaka and Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi said that the third student was the latest victim of the gruesome murder.

“We are in Kawangware with Gatina MCA Ken Swaka and Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi to condole with the family of Vivian Kajaya, the 22-year-old MKU student who was murdered and dumped in a maize field in Nakuru. She is the latest victim of the string of gruesome murders in Nairobi and we continue to urge the@NPSOfficial_KE to put an end to the killings,” he wrote on his x account on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

“We demand Justice for Vivian and the 90-plus women killed in the last 3 months.”

The third-year student was found dead on October 14, in a maize plantation in Kiamunyi, Nakuru County.

Police on femicide

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Eliud Langat in a presser revealed that at least 97 women have been killed in the last three months.

“Murders against women have increased, with 97 cases having been reported in the last three months,” Eliud Langat said during the press briefing on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the National Police Headquarters.

The police boss during the media address raised alarm on the increased insecurity cases urging Kenyans to collaborate with the security agencies in tackling gender-based violence in society.

“This troubling trend highlights the urgent need for focused action and collaboration to tackle the widespread problem of gender-based violence in society.”

The DIG further disclosed that several suspects of the murders have been arrested and arraigned in court.

“As investigations continue, several suspects have been arrested and arraigned in court,” he stated.
