INTERNAL VACANCY – DATA ANALYST OFFICER

The Society is looking for a qualified person to fill the position of:
Reporting to: Data Manager
Location: Nairobi
Overall Purpose
Kenya Red Cross requires the support of a Data Analyst, to strengthen its data analytics team. Data is a central component of humanitarian action pre- and post-disaster.
This means the organization need to be prepared to manage data collection and storage, analysis tools/techniques, skilled staff and strategies in order to enhance operation efficiencies through innovatively collecting information as well as exploiting archived information.
You will be primarily working with internal datasets, but there may be opportunity to investigate how external datasets can be leveraged to strengthen our insights. The insights generated will be used in promoting research work through the International Centre for Humanitarian Affairs (ICHA) Units and to improve KRCS humanitarian work.
We are working hard to improve efficiency and reproducibility of our analyses, so experience with R/python programming is a key requirement.
You will need to be comfortable with figuring out the best way to do something and to learn on the job. We are very supportive of professional development and are keen to help you grow your skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead data quality audits, data processing, verification, cleaning and analysis.
- Highlight where analytical learning in one area could benefit another area of our work.
- Contribute to data and digital transformation initiatives.
- Develop business intelligence tools such as dashboards to visualize and communicate analysis results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and technical support in defining research methodologies.
- Evaluate external data sources for incorporation into our analyses.
- Guides strategies for improving the quality of data, and overall data dissemination and utilization.
- Provide technical support in data management for KRCS and its partners.
- Contribute in the development on reports, synchronized with analyzed qualitative and quantitative data.
- Documenting lessons learnt, good practice and case studies to shape programme strategies approaches, and contribute to broader sector learning.
- Facilitate and ensure all data queries are addressed in an accurate and timely manner to improve program implementation.
- Management of project assistants to ensure effective project implementation, supporting growth, development and performance setting and evaluation.
Knowledge and skills
- Competence in using open source statistical software such as R and python.
- Experience of mapping tools like QGIS and ArcGIS.
- Experience in mobile data collection tools such as Open Data Kit (ODK).
- Strong analytical skills, data organization, assessments, mining, validation, analysis and security.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including ability to develop reports and prepare relevant publications.
- Highly motivated, self-confidence, keen attention to detail, team work and able to work under high pressure and within a limited time frame.
- Ability to lead generation of ideas that create value and improve processes for data management and program implementation.
- Knowledge of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
