‘It will be great privilege to serve my country’ – ODM’s Wandayi thanks Ruto for CS nomination

Ugunja MP and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary of Political Affairs Opiyo Wandayi has expressed his gratitude to President William Ruto after being nominated for the position of Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum.

In a statement on his X account on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Wandayi conveyed his appreciation to President Ruto, highlighting the honour and privilege he would feel in serving the nation in this new role, pending approval by the National Assembly.

“Thank you, President William Ruto, for nominating me to the position of CS, Energy and Petroleum. It will be a great honour and privilege to serve my country in this new capacity if I secure the approval of the National Assembly,” Wandayi said.

Additionally, Wandayi acknowledged the guidance and mentorship he received from ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.

“My gratitude to Baba Raila Odinga for his enduring mentorship and tutelage,” Wandayi added.

ODM leaders nominated

Wandayi is not the only key ODM Party leader who bagged a seat in Ruto’s new cabinet.

In a national address on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, President Ruto announced the nomination of John Mbadi, the ODM chairman, for the Ministry of National Treasury and Economic Planning.

Additionally, Hassan Joho, the ODM Deputy Party Leader and former Governor of Mombasa County, has been nominated for the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs.

Furthermore, Wycliffe Oparanya, former Governor of Kakamega County, has been nominated to lead the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development.
