‘Its time to dialogue’ – Ex-CS Kuria tells Gen Zs to end demos, shift focus from regime change

Former Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Moses Kuria has weighed in on the Gen Z protests.

In a statement shared on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Kuria advised the youths driving the demonstrations against President William Ruto’s regime to shift their agenda.

The vocal CS noted that it is time the young people shift their focus from calling for a change in the regime to ensuring those who lost their lives in the protests did not die in vain.

Kuria, however, acknowledged that the issues fronted by the young people are real and lasting, therefore national conversations will never be the same again.

While underscoring that Tuesday’s protests were unsatisfactory, the ex-CS asked the young people to end the demos and agree to dialogue with the government to air their grievances.

“Dear gen z. The issues you have brought forth are real and indelible. National discourse will never be the same again. But let us face it- its over! Today was underwhelming.

“Focus should now shift from regime change to ensuring those whom we lost did not die in vain. Its time to dialogue about our surrender,” Kuria said.

On Tuesday, the protesters who had initially planned to demonstrate at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) held peaceful demos at Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

In stark contrast to recent demonstrations, the atmosphere was different, as protestors engaged in peaceful marches devoid of violence.
