Our Kenya program, founded in 2006, is our largest .We operate under the farmer brand Tupande, serving 830,000 farmers and employing 4,000 staff. About the Role

You will manage the Kenya Strategic Procurement Function, overseeing long-term purchase planning on behalf of One Acre Fund smallholder farmers. The team fulfills all the procurement needs necessary for the proper functioning of One Acre Fund’s program. You’ll report to Logistics Procurement Associate.

Responsibilities

  • Contract Management 
    • Establish high-quality contracts for frequent and critical procurement needs 
    • Monitor market dynamics to ensure the competitiveness of existing contracts 
    • Mitigate supply risks through contracting support 
    • Achieve cost savings for the organization through tendering and negotiation
    • Estimate and report cost-savings through the relevant channels 
  • Exports management
    • Lead the team in exports processes for fresh and processed produce
    • Support in export documentation for all shipped goods
    • Customer service for international clients on exported goods
    • Shipment tracking and escalations management
    • 3rd Party teams coordination
  • Demand Planning and Procurement Forecasting
    • Work with internal departments to forecast procurement needs.
    • Develop procurement plans.
    • Oversee execution of procurement plans
  • Supplier Performance Management 
    • Identify and address supplier performance gaps 
  • Process improvement
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of existing processes and tools 
    • Execute cost-saving opportunities 
  • Stakeholder management 
    • Represent OAF with external stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Management
    • Manage a team of 3+ people while supporting the daily operations of the team and their professional development.     
    • Train purchasers in identifying quality, high-level suppliers and arriving at the best prices and terms. 
    • Set clear and well-documented expectations for all team members and hold staff accountable to these rigorous expectations.
    • Identify and address team development needs.
    • Set short to medium-term (0-6 months) team and project goals with some Manager support.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • 5+ years of work experience in the supply chain
  • 3+ years in team management in a similar position
  • Export and imports experience
  • Excellent excel and numerical skills
  • Experience in a multinational or multicultural environment
  • People management experience required
  • Project management experience is desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Professional qualification i.e CIPS or CIL
  • Language: English required and Swahili.
