Nairobi residents and its surrounding environs have been asked to brace up for moderate rainfall on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

In a weather forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met), several parts of the city and other satellite towns will experience downpours starting in the morning.

According to the weatherman, the rainfall is likely to disrupt activities as it has been predicted to start at 9:00 am.

Some of the areas listed include Westlands, Kasarani, Kibra, Embakasi East, Lang’ata, Dagoretti South, Starehe and Mathere.

Kamukunji and Embakasi North are expected to receive high rainfall on Wednesday according to Kenya Met’s advisory.

Surrounding areas such as Thika Town, Gatundu, Limuru, Kabete, Lari, Kiambaa, Juja and Ruiru are also expected to experience rainfall in the morning.

Heavy rainfall

In the forecast report, the weatherman has indicated that some other regions are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

The areas border Kajiado and Machakos County.

“Light to moderate rainfall is expected across various areas within the metropolis, with isolated heavy rainfall and storms likely in some regions,” the forecast report read in part.

“Residents are strongly advised to stay weather-aware and prepared for potential disruptions,” it added.

This comes as Kenyans continue embracing the short rainfall season which kicked off in November 2024.

In the first weeks of the month, several areas in Nairobi experienced flooding due to heavy rainfall. Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) was particularly affected by the rains which rendered some sections of the roads impassable.

The rains also exposed the poor state of the road network within the city with President William Ruto promising to fix one of the roads in Soweto by January 2025.

In other counties, farmers have taken advantage of the short rains season to plant crops that would yield results quickly, ensuring food security and income generation for the local communities.
