A red Mitsubishi car veered off a curve and collided with a bridge railing just 1 kilometre away from a local temple, leaving a monk trapped in the wreckage. The incident, which took place today, November 19, prompted a swift response from rescue teams and locals, who worked together to extract the injured individual.

Emergency responders from the Chaiyaburi Subdistrict Administration Organisation in Tha Uthen district, Nakhon Phanom province, were informed of a car accident on Highway 212. The location was along the Tha Uthen-Ban Phaeng route in Chaiyaburi Village. Upon receiving the report, officials coordinated the deployment of cutting tools from the Tha Uthen Subdistrict Municipality and quickly arrived at the scene.

The crash involved a red Mitsubishi sedan, registered as กข 3630 Nakhon Phanom, which had collided head-on with the bridge’s guardrail, leaving the front of the vehicle severely damaged. Engine oil was seen spilling onto the road, adding to the chaos of the scene.

Inside the vehicle, a 52 year old monk from a nearby temple was found trapped in the driver’s seat, pinned by the dashboard with a broken left leg. The monk was audibly in pain, and emergency personnel had to work meticulously to free him from the wreckage before transporting him to Tha Uthen Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the monk, who is well-known among locals, had left the temple earlier in the day to attend to personal matters in the Tha Uthen district. On his return journey, as he approached the curve at Huai Bong Thit Thong Bridge, the car lost control and crashed into the railing. The accident occurred just a short distance from the temple, a mere kilometre away.

This incident is reminiscent of another accident in the same subdistrict two months prior. A local abbot driving a Vigo pickup truck also suffered a crash under similar circumstances. While returning from errands in the Tha Uthen district, the abbot’s vehicle collided with a bridge railing roughly 2 to 3 kilometres away from yesterday’s accident site, resulting in injuries.
