He worked at a Toyota plant and was reportedly facing personal challenges, including a recent breakup and potential job loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the day of his death, McNutt began a livestream on Facebook, during which he was intoxicated and handling a rifle. His friend, Joshua Steen, noticed the stream and attempted to intervene, hoping to alert authorities and stop the broadcast. Despite multiple reports to Facebook about the concerning nature of the livestream, the platform did not intervene until after McNutt had already taken his life. The New Albany Police Department was alerted but did not enter McNutt’s apartment until they heard the gunshot.
