‘If you can’t have real conversation, don’t talk about X Spaces’ – Andrew Kibe calls out Ruto

Controversial media personality Andrew Kibe called out President William Ruto after his recent statement about Kenyan youth declining to engage him even after he agreed to a dialogue on X spaces.

In a video shared on his X account on Monday, July 22, 2024, Kibe minced no words in criticizing Ruto’s approach to engaging with the Kenyan youth, highlighting the need for authenticity and meaningful conversations.

Gen Z’s weakest link

The media personality pointed out that Ruto’s reliance on the weakest link among influencers to claim victory was not a sustainable strategy.

Kibe urged Ruto to step up and engage through the front door, avoiding shortcuts that undermine the essence of genuine dialogue.

“Our beloved President jana amekuja akasema ati ‘Niilienda huko spaces wakatoroka’ … Mr President, I have a message for you, a very simple and clear message. Haukukuja spaces, wewe ulienda ukachukuwa the weakest link, anaitwa Osama, ukakadominate mbele ya watu, what kind of victory is that?” Kibe remarked.

“Unachukuwa the weakest link, alafu unamwekelea mbele ya watu…unasema umeshinda. Mr. President haujakuja spaces bado, kuja uongee na wanaume vizuri…ana kwa ana. But do not take our weakest, someone who has never run a space before, ata hajui button gani anafaa kufinya.”

“If you want to have conversations, ukuje space vizuri through the front door but sio ati uende uchukuwe tuvijana then utelete mbele ya watu.”

Moreover, Kibe questioned the nature of the previous conversations held on X spaces, suggesting that Ruto’s portrayal of offering people a platform to speak was more akin to a private exchange rather than a public discourse.

In addition, Kibe emphasized the importance of public interactions and challenged Ruto to participate in open conversations like a true leader, rather than boasting about past engagements.

Honest feedback

In a bold move, Kibe called on Ruto to demonstrate humility by engaging in authentic conversations with individuals who are unafraid to speak the truth.

“We did not even know what you were doing, tulikuwa tu tunaangaliana tunauliza hawa wasee wanado nini? Juu hii sio conversation, it looked like something private. We were just privy to a private conversation… Between two pennies,”

“This is my direct message to you, hujakuja spaces, haujaongea na wanaume vizuri, kuja ukae chini bila uoga, bila mtu wa kukuweka defence hapo. Have a proper conversation, otherwise do not talk about it. Usiseme ati ulikuja spaces, haukucome, right now I dare you to come, because sisi hatukuogopi, we know what we want,”

Further, Kibe highlighted the courage of Gen Zs in voicing their opinions and contrasted it with the apparent lack of honest feedback from legislators surrounding Ruto, whom he labelled as mere ‘yes men.’

“You are afraid to come because you know we are unafraid to tell you the truth… na sio matusi, conversation tu… Because most people you have around you are yes men.  We want to have a real conversation, and if you cannot have it, do not talk about the X spaces,”
