Why this single photo of an Aussie bloke at a supermarket brought a stranger to tears

A Good Samaritan has received widespread praise after he was photographed helping an elderly woman unload her groceries outside a supermarket.

A bystander said they were moved to tears when they witnessed the act in Cessnock, in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales on Thursday.

She shared a photo on Facebook showing an elderly woman pushing a cart full of shopping bags down the sidewalk.

A real Australian man was spotted chatting to the woman, while taking a moment to help her unload her groceries into her car.

“This man is beautiful and brought tears to my eyes,” the Facebook post read.

“There really are still good people out there. He offered to put the lady’s groceries in the car and then put her cart away.”

The bystander asked everyone in the area if they knew the man, to express her gratitude for this seemingly random act of kindness.

“If you know this man, let him know he is more appreciated than he knows,” her post read.

Locals were quick to praise the Good Samaritan.

“Really an Aussie,” someone wrote.

“Very nice man,” added another.

“Whoever you are. Good job bro,” wrote a third.

The man was described as a ‘champion’ and a ‘gentleman’ and his assistance to the elderly woman was ‘amazing work’.

“Great to see that such amazing people still exist,” one person wrote.

Others wrote that in this environment it is normal for strangers to help each other.

Members of the Cessnock Community Noticeboard group praised the mystery man's kind actions.

“I’ve noticed that people living here are more helpful. Let’s hope the sense of community doesn’t disappear. That’s what we need to see more of,” one person wrote.

Another shared that a friend of his had recently had a pacemaker installed and that on his first walk to the pharmacy after his surgery, people offered to help him and stopped to chat.

“He felt so safe and reassured that he didn’t have to panic. It was so wonderful to hear,” they wrote.
