Married At First Sight’s Lucinda Light reveals what it was really like appearing on the Channel Nine dating show – and the one thing she could have done differently

Married At First Sight bride Lucinda Light has revealed her experiences on the popular dating show.

In an interview with Ny Breaking Australia, Lucinda (43) talked about her experiences on MAFS and how she has adjusted to life after the show.

Lucinda, who lives in a quiet coastal town along the Great Ocean Road, admits it feels surreal that she is now recognised when she travels to bigger cities.

“The amount of opportunities that have come my way has exceeded my wildest dreams,” she said.

‘I live in a quiet coastal town, so I tend to stick to the normal household stuff: cooking, enjoying nature and getting a good night’s sleep. It’s still pretty surreal to be recognised when I’m in Melbourne or somewhere else.

‘I love the exchange of love in those moments when someone greets me like a long lost friend. It’s so beautiful actually.

‘I recently had a concrete worker over to do some work on the house and he made me laugh so hard with his surprise and joy – “It’s you, Lucinda, it’s you!”‘

Lucinda also spoke candidly about the most important lesson she learned from the experiment.

“I learned some humbling things while participating in the experiment,” she explains.

“It was a big growth spurt and it still is. One lesson that stands out is not to be such a leaf blower!”

Looking back on the overall experience, Lucinda expressed nothing but love and appreciation.

‘I loved the whole experience! It was incredible, it ran the gamut of emotions – it was tough, hilarious, full of breakthroughs, humiliation, joy, hope, disappointment – everything!

“I loved the entire cast and crew, and every day was a new adventure. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and a completely unique experience. What you put in is what you get out!”

Stay grounded

Despite all the public attention, Lucinda maintains a healthy mindset by staying true to herself.

“I’m just being myself. At this age and at this stage, I feel pretty grounded,” she cheered.

“I’ve been through enough pain and tragedy in my life and I’m just grateful for it now.”

‘I see the public eye as a divine mirror: beautiful, dazzling and divine people exchanging love and seeing in me what lives within themselves.’

“I feel the collective heartbeat of my audience and I wish I knew them all and what set their hearts on fire. I’ve adopted a village and I love it!”

No regrets

Lucinda also has no regrets about her time on the series.

‘I don’t generally live in regret. What’s done is done. I said and did what I did. Learn and grow with time!’

Dealing with media inspection

Dealing with public attention and media scrutiny can be challenging, but Lucinda takes a pragmatic approach.

‘Everyone will always have an opinion; it comes and goes. Take it with a grain of salt. Some of the nasty trolls are AI bots.

“Some articles are not factual. You can’t please everyone all the time. Be yourself, without any apology,” she explained.

“Authenticity is what it’s all about—your most sincere attempt at it. Be yourself, be true. Don’t be afraid to share your vulnerability, your heart, your everything…”

Self-care

After the show, Lucinda focused on self-care to maintain her mental and emotional health.

‘I went back home, straight back to nature – the bush and the coast – and surrounded myself with family.

Self love is what it’s all about. Everyone has different regulatory tools, but for me it’s sleeping well, eating well, getting out in nature, surrounding myself with people I love and who love me, and diving into the ocean (best reset).

“I also talked to people I really respected and discussed the experience with a pep talk. I also stayed close with a number of actors I love. Together we have a bond that comes from a unique experience.”

Doing things differently

If I had the chance to do it again, I would probably just take it a little easier at first, Lucinda said.

“I have a lot of love to give, but I realize that everyone is at a different pace and in a different place, and I could have tuned in a little bit more. There’s a lot to learn there.”

Exciting tour of the United Kingdom

Looking forward, Lucinda is excited about her upcoming UK tour.

“The UK tour is going to be a lot of fun with lots of love and light being shared. I’m so excited about it!” she cheered.

‘Fans can expect a one woman show with stories from my life and the lessons and tools I’ve learned, including from MAFS. It’s engaging, wholesome and with a dash of cabaret thrown in for good measure!

‘An Evening with Lucinda Light is about emotional intelligence, self-love and being the most unapologetic version of yourself while being considerate of others. I’ve come a long way with that!’

Married At First Sight has been nominated for Best Structured Reality Program at the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards. Fans can vote for the show here.
