Em Rusciano praised for stepping in to assist a fan who collapsed and ‘momentarily stopped breathing’ at her stand-up comedy show

Comedian Em Rusciano has received praise from fans after she helped a woman in distress during her stand-up show Outgrown in Thirroul, NSW, on Friday.

Eyewitnesses have reported that the 45-year-old podcaster had to stop her performance after an audience member suffered a medical episode.

Em was then seen running down the aisle of the South Coast theatre auditorium to calm the stricken fan and bystanders.

An eyewitness reported on social media that Em had faked the medical treatment before resuming the show.

Em later shared a thank you note from the woman’s daughter, who told her her mother was recovering.

‘Thank you to all the lovely people who helped my mother. I am so grateful that she was in such good hands.

She continued: ‘Once the situation was under control, [Em] led the audience through a few deep breaths and got them laughing again. She didn’t miss a beat for the rest of the show while the rest of us were shaking with adrenaline. She was laser-focused, duck-paddling, awesomely perfect.

“Bow down. This is the queen of the stage.”

Em later shared her own thoughts about the episode on Instagram, thanking the public and emergency services for getting her fan in need safely and well.

“Thirroul… What can I say?” she said.

‘Thank you for coming with me, it was definitely a show I won’t forget.

‘During the show a lady fainted and stopped breathing for a moment. My audience is mainly mothers, gays, lesbians, nurses, cabin crew, paramedics, doctors (sometimes all at once) – you know, the best kind of people.

“Everyone jumped into action and stayed calm. We heard the lady is fine, her husband (a doctor) came and picked her up and she is in a good mood, that’s all that matters. Thank you for holding me while I was running around like a panther on the loose,” she added.

‘Once again – BEST AUDIENCE EVER. See you tomorrow night Sydney.’

Em continues her Outgrown tour on Saturday night at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre.
