Amite Police set up a perimeter near the intersection of West Martin Luther King and Richardson streets after the gunfire reportedly erupted around 7 p.m.
Deputies from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Department also were dispatched to assist with crowd control near the shooting scene and near a hospital where at least one victim was being treated.
The ages, genders and conditions of the victims have not been disclosed. One person was shot in the head and the other in the abdomen, according to the Fox 8 source.
