Babu Owino: I will not support this defunct govt no matter the consequences

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has announced his stance on joining the Kenya Kwanza government.

 

In a statement shared on X, Babu Owino categorically stated that he would not be part of President William Ruto’s administration no matter the consequences.

 

The MP further stated that he has decided to be with the majority of Kenyans adding that Ruto’s government is no longer in existence.

 

“My decision is to be with the People. I will not support this defunct Government no matter the consequences,” he said,

Broad-based govt

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, July 19, 2024, at State House Nairobi, Ruto disclosed that after a wide consultation, he has decided to form a broad-based government that would harness the enormous potential and economic transformation of the country.

“I gave the nation my undertaking to reflect at length on these issues that have been brought into sharp focus by the people of Kenya, consult widely on the way forward and craft a broad-based Government that would harness the enormous potential of our country to turbocharge our economic transformation and inclusive growth,” he said.

He further stated that the ongoing crisis has created an opportunity to craft an inclusive government consisting of a citizen coalition made up of Kenyans from all walks of life for national transformation and progress.

“While the events of the past month have caused tremendous anxiety, concern and uncertainty, the crisis has presented us with a great opportunity, as a nation, to craft a broad-based, and inclusive citizen coalition for national transformation and progress, made up of Kenyans from all walks of life,” Ruto stated.

Nominated CS

He added that he has started the process of transforming a broad-based cabinet that will assist him in driving the country’s urgently needed irreversible transformation.

 

“Consequently, I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country,” Ruto added.

 

“I hereby nominate the following first batch of 11 individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General.”

 

Here is the first batch of the 11 CSs nominated to the Cabinet.

  1. Alice Wahome-Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development
  2. Prof. Kithure Kindiki -Ministry of the Interior and National Administration
  3. Aden Barre Duale – Ministry of Defence
  4. Rosalinda Soipan Tuiya -Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry
  5. Rebecca Miano – Attorney-General
  6. Davis Chirchir -Ministry of Roads and Transport
  7. Dr Debra Mulongo Barasa-Ministry of Health
  8. Julius Ogamba- Ministry of Education
  9. Dr Margaret Ndungu-Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy
  10. Dr Andrew Karanja- Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development
  11. Eric Muriithi-Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation
