‘Azimio constituent parties will not join Ruto’s cabinet’ – Kalonzo

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared his stance against joining Ruto’s cabinet adding that the coalition would not support the proposed broad-based government.

During Azimio’s presser on Friday, July 19, 2024, Kalonzo emphasised the party’s decision to abstain from the Kenya Kwanza-led government discussions on national unity, citing concerns over the past actions of the regimen which have resulted in consequences such as corruption, tribalism, and the burden of harsh financial legislation from the 2023/2024 Finance Bill.

According to Kalonzo, their refusal to align with the Kenya Kwanza government stems from a deep-rooted commitment to their coalition’s principles and beliefs, viewing their participation as a betrayal of their core values.

“As Azimio constituent parties, the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM), Jubilee Party, DAP-Kenya Party, Party of National Unity (PNU), and Narc-Kenya reiterate our earlier and unchanged position that we shall not participate in or support the proposed KenyaKwanza-led Broad-Based Government of National Unity,” Kalonzo noted.

“This is a betrayal of the Kenyan people, particularly Gen Z and millennials, who have paid the ultimate price to rid this country of the disastrous Kenya Kwanza regime, their harsh taxes (Finance Bill 2023/2024), corruption, tribalism, unemployment, and the continued high cost of living.”

Cabinet reshuffle is cosmetic

Kalonzo highlighted the superficial nature of cabinet reorganization under the current government, asserting that genuine change cannot occur as long as the Kenya Kwanza administration remains in power.

“We shall not join for the straightforward reason that such actions are a betrayal of the ideology, values, and tenets of both our coalition party and our constituent parties. As long as the Kenya Kwanza regime remains in place, absolutely nothing will change. A Cabinet re-organisation and changing of office holders will only be cosmetic,” Kalonzo added.

Furthermore, Kalonzo emphasized that any party that joins President Ruto’s broad-based government will do so in an individual capacity and not on behalf of the Azimio coalition.

He emphasised the Azimio faction’s unwavering dedication to standing by the interests and welfare of the Kenyan people.

“Finally, we reiterate our public position, that when it comes to siding with Gen Z and the Kenyan people vs. The Kenya Kwanza regime, the decision is as obvious as day and night. We will always side and stand with the people of Kenya,” Kalonzo noted.
