Former Trump executive Allen Weisselberg released from jail after serving perjury sentence

NEW YORK — Retired Trump Organization executive Allen Weisselberg was released from Rikers Island jail in New York City on Friday after serve a sentence for lying under oath, according to online data.

The former CFO of Donald Trump’s real estate company pleaded guilty to perjury in March during his testimony in the fraud case that the New York Attorney General had filed against the former president.

Weisselberg admitted he lied about how Trump’s Manhattan penthouse was overvalued in his financial statements.

In exchange for his guilty plea to two counts of perjury, prosecutors agreed not to prosecute him for other crimes he may have committed in connection with his longtime employment with the Trump Organization.

“Allen Weisselberg has accepted responsibility for his conduct and now looks forward to putting this life-changing experience behind him and returning to his family and retirement,” his attorney, Seth Rosenberg, said after he was sentenced in April.

It was Weisselberg’s second prison sentence. The 76-year-old spent 100 days in jail last year for evading taxes on $1.7 million in corporate perks, including a rent-free Manhattan apartment and luxury cars.

Weisselberg, who served Trump’s family for nearly 50 years, testified twice at trials that ended badly for Trump, each time doing his best to suggest his boss had committed no serious wrongdoing.

Weisselberg’s attorney and spokespeople for the city’s Department of Corrections did not respond to phone calls or emails seeking comment.
