Mudavadi’s plea to motorists after deadly accident on Kisumu-Kakamega highway

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has sent a message to all road users ahead of the festive season.

In a statement on Thursday, November 14, the CS pleaded with motorists and other road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules. Mudavadi noted that it is paramount for all road users to act responsibly and protect the lives of one another ahead of the upcoming festive season, which is characterised by a lot of travelling.

“As we approach the festive season, I urge all road users to exercise extra caution and vigilance to ensure the safety of all,” Mudavadi’s statement read in part.

Iguhu accident

Mudavadi made the comments following a grisly road accident on Wednesday evening, November 13, 2024, along Kisumu Kakamega road.

The accident claimed several lives and left others with serious injuries. The 6 pm accident occurred in the Iguhu area after the driver of a fuel tanker veered to the right side of the road and crashed with a matatu and another vehicle.

In his statement, Mudavadi sent his condolences to families that had lost loved ones in the accident and wished quick recovery to those who sustained injuries.

“I join in mourning with the families who have tragically lost their loved ones in the unfortunate accident at Iguhu Bridge along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway. In this time of profound grief, may the Lord grant them comfort and strength.

“To those who have been injured, I send my heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery,” Mudavadi added.

Governor’s intervention

On his part, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa deployed a team from the county to help with the rescue mission.

“We have mobilised our doctors and emergency teams, who are working tirelessly to provide the necessary treatment and care to the injured. As we enter the holiday season, I urge all road users, particularly drivers, to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic rules to prevent further tragedies,” the governor said.
