Deangelo Alford was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death that happened late Friday night on Ethel Street off Park Avenue and Airways Boulevard, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

Court records identified the man killed as Anthony Bailey. A witness told investigators that he believed his neighbor, Alford, was upset with Bailey “because of previously purchased pancakes from IHOP that suspect Alford never received,” records allege.

The witness also told investigators that before the shooting, he heard Alford telling Bailey, “I told you (expletive).” Two shots rang out before Alford ran off, records allege.

Alford was taken into custody Monday and charged in the death, police said.
