Kourtney Kardashian’s secret family heartbreak revealed as son Mason, 14, refuses to join her for two-week stay in Australia with her new husband Travis Barker

Kourtney Kardashian arrived in Sydney, Australia this week with her children Penelope and Reign in the penultimate episode of season 5 of The Kardashians. The mother of four revealed that the trip was accompanied by heartache for her teenage son Mason.

She also brought her newborn child Rocky along on the two-week trip, and followed her husband Travis Barker on part of his band Blink-182’s tour.

“I’m in Australia, we made it. We had the best time. Travis is touring in different cities in Australia for about a week, but because I was on bed rest before that and then had a newborn at home, I haven’t really been out and about with my other kids, so I really wanted to stay in Sydney,” Kourtney says in a confessional, as they show footage of Kourtney and the kids trying to play tennis… though Reign screams when the ball comes near him.

However, her eldest child, 14-year-old son Mason, was not there. He is, as she said in her confession, “home with his dad, which makes me very sad, but I’m loving every second of it.” The episode took place after Kourtney celebrated Penelope’s 12th birthday.

In last week’s episode, there was a short clip where Kim said she was going to try to convince Mason to come along on the trip by telling him about all the cool things Australia has to offer, but that didn’t seem to work.

We see Reign feeding a horse a carrot, while Kourtney asks Reign and Penelope about their “highlights of Australia so far.”

Reign says, “My favorite part is the ice cream,” as Kourtney admits, “The ice cream is delicious,” as Reign adds, “and that sucks for a favorite. My favorite would have to be a roller coaster ride,” but Kourtney explains, “We’re going on one tomorrow,” which makes Reign laugh.

Penelope says, “When I went to the beach I saw there was a shark attack and I didn’t want to get in the water.”

Reign waves off her comment, saying, “Oh well, who cares, if someone gets bitten, I’ll take the risk.”

Nanny Allie Garcia asks Kourtney what her highs and lows have been, and she replies, “My high, probably hanging out at Miranda’s. I felt like I learned so much from her mom about the traditions that I want to keep in my house now with the kids, like how the mom is always cooking and taking care of everyone.”

Allie added that, “The son was so helpful,” as Kourtney added, “And like they all did the dishes together. My well was the spider.”

They show footage of a rather large spider walking across a white wall. Kourtney confesses: ‘The only reason I could never move to Australia is the spiders.’

Kourtney tells her kids and Allie, “I look at spiders everywhere.” She confesses, “It’s just terrifying and this is not the way I want to live.”

Kourtney asks her kids, “Do we love Australia?” Penelope nods yes and Reign says, “Sure,” with an exaggerated wink.

Kourtney insists in her confession: ‘I don’t know where he gets his sense of humor from. He’s like a mini Jim Carrey.’

Back at the meal, Reign looks into the camera and says, “Once upon a time…” but then looks up at the ceiling, while Penelope crosses her arms, unimpressed, as Reign looks back into the camera and says, “That was the story,” and starts laughing, while Penelope insists, “It’s not that funny,” as he gives her a strange look.

Kourtney admits in her confession, “I’m starting to look more like his dad. I think he’s starting to get that sense of humor. I think, exactly what we need.”

They leave the restaurant as Penelope says, “There’s paparazzi over there,” showing the photographer Reign yelling, “Hey paparazzi, you stalker.”

Kourtney says, “I don’t see us standing here for long if that guy is here,” adding in her confession, “The paparazzi are everywhere in Sydney. Everywhere.”

They notice the photographer running away as they walk in the opposite direction. Kourtney confesses, “That’s why I don’t take Rocky out, but as much as I’d love to stay home and be in my own bubble, it’s not fair to have my kids all the way in Australia and not take them out and do stuff.”

They all walk to a van, with Kourtney telling them, “We can’t let them ruin our whole time,” as the van drives away.
