About the project:
This project aims to create and test a new preschool program in rural Kenya that focuses on
child development and economic empowerment for women in a cost-effective way.
Using a randomized controlled trial design, the project will investigate the impact of allowing 3-year-old children in Tharaka Nithi County (TNC), Kenya, to attend preschool, as opposed to the current early childhood development programs in Kenya which cater to children aged 4 and above.
Offering early childhood development care for 3-year-olds is seen as an important investment with the potential for expansion across Kenya and beyond.
The program will introduce an improved curriculum tailored for the Kenyan context and provide
training for preschool teachers as caregivers.
The goal of the program is to enhance child development and school readiness for 3- and 4-year-old children and to increase employment and income for parents of 3-year-olds.
