A jealous Thai man stabbed his wife to death at their shared home in the eastern province of Rayong yesterday after he reportedly suspected her of having an affair with a man she met online due to her obsession with the TikTok app.

An assistant to the Samnakthong sub-district chief, along with residents, restrained the 49 year old murderer, Narate, and called officers from the Samnakthong Police Station to arrest him. The incident occurred at around 11am yesterday, November 11, at the home of Narate and his wife, 48 year old Sang.

Police, along with a rescue team, arrived at the scene and performed CPR on the woman, who was in critical condition. She suffered more than 16 stab wounds to her body and face, and, despite the efforts, the CPR could not save her life.

The knife used in the crime was found at her feet. It was the same knife the couple used daily for chopping vegetables, as they were vegetable vendors.

Sang’s older brother told police that Narate was always a jealous man and the couple argued over jealousy on several occasions before the tragic incident. He said Narate became angry at Sang for being addicted to her phone and spending all day on the TikTok app.

The brother believed Narate thought his sister was secretly speaking to another man online. Additionally, the couple started selling vegetables separately, no longer working or staying together all the time, which may have worsened the tension between them.

According to Channel 7, the suspect had not yet spoken to the media about his motive for the murder. He was taken to the police station for questioning, and investigating officers have not yet provided further details on the case.

In a related story reported two weeks ago, a Thai man stabbed his wife to death in their apartment in Nonthaburi province out of jealousy. The suspect claimed the wife defrauded him to financially support her lover.

Another murder driven by jealousy was reported a month ago when a Thai man, suspecting his wife of having a secret affair, stalked her and fatally stabbed her in a car, even though the affair had not been confirmed and he had not yet met her lover.
