Information reads: “Man loses custody battle walks in court house & murked himself.

A shooting at the District Court of Baltimore prompted a police investigation and closure Friday morning.

A 35-year-old man is in the hospital after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound during an incident at the District Court of Baltimore Friday morning. READ MORE HERE

According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley, around 8:40 a.m. on Jan. 31, a 35-year-old man entered the courthouse at 1400 E. North Avenue in Baltimore. It’s unclear why the man was at the courthouse.

Police say that the deputies and bailiffs attempted to get the man to drop the weapon and even fired a shot that hit the man in his lower extremities.

However, Worley said during the police press conference on Friday that the man fired a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, and he is at a local hospital and listed in critical condition.

The courthouse was be closed for the remainder of the day on Friday.

According to the Maryland Attorney General, under state law, bailiffs are special police officers that are employed by the State of Maryland, and protocol states that they will identify the man and officer involved within two business days of the incident.
