Kenyan comedian and activist Eric Omondi has launched a fundraising campaign to support Kyalo Wambua, a man who made headlines for his efforts in retrieving mutilated bodies from a quarry in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums.
On his Instagram, Omondi praised Wambua’s bravery and dedication working tirelessly in the grim conditions of the quarry.
“Hero sio watu wako kwa ofisi…Hawa ndio heroes. This guy kyalo wambua alijitolea na aka retrieve 13 bodies from Kware Mukuru Kwa Njenga. Team sisi kwa sisi lets change his life completely,” Omondi wrote.
The horrifying discovery of the mutilated bodies at the dumpsite was initially reported on Friday, July 12, 2024.
On the first day of his search, he discovered four female bodies. On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Kyalo found nine more bodies, also female, which had been mutilated.
Suspect of Kware killings
Earlier today, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that they had solved the case of the mutilated bodies found in Kware.
Speaking to the press on Monday, July 15, 2024, DCI Director Amin Mohamed revealed that 33-year-old Collins Jomaisi Khalisi confessed to the murders.
Director Mohamed stated that Khalisi admitted to killing 42 women between 2022 and 2024 and disposing of their bodies at the quarry.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to having lured, killed, and disposed of 42 female bodies at the dumping site, all murdered between 2022 and as recent as Thursday, July 11, 2024,” he said.
The first victim, according to Khalisi, was his wife, Imelda Judith Khaleya, whom he strangled, dismembered, and disposed of at the quarry.
“Unfortunately, and this is very sad, the suspect alleged that the first victim was his wife, namely Imelda Judith Khaleya, whom he strangled to death before dismembering her body and disposing of it at the same site,” Mohamed added.
Khalisi claimed he killed his wife after she misused the money he gave her to start two businesses.
“What is it that motivated this man to do what he did? He told us that he was married to his first wife in 2022. He started a business for her, she squandered it, started another business for her, she squandered it, and out of bitterness, he chopped her into pieces and dumped her at the quarry. But that is subject to further investigations,” Mohamed explained.
The DCI Director also noted that Khalisi had a particular interest in beautiful women.
“So apparently, he is a person full of vengeance and hatred, and he had a special predilection for beautiful women, according to what he told us,” he said.
DCI determined from their interrogations that all the victims had been murdered in the same manner. Mohamed emphasized that both the suspect’s house and the dumping site will continue to be active crime scenes.
