Huge blow for Spain as Rodri fails to emerge for Euro 2024 final second half as Martin Zubimendi replaces him at the break… but it doesn’t take long for them to break the deadlock vs England

Spain suffered a major setback at half-time of the Euro 2024 final when a distraught Rodri was substituted injured.

The Spanish midfield maestro walked off the pitch with his head in his hands at half-time, before taking a seat on the bench for the second half.

It seemed like a major setback for the Spaniards as they had to play the second half of the match without their talented midfielder, with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi being brought in in his place.

However, it took just 70 seconds for Spain to break the deadlock in devastating fashion, with Nico Williams firing a low shot into the net to surprise a sleeping England.

Just before Spain scored the opening goal, the ITV panel were surprised by Rodri’s substitution.

“You talk about England being lucky in certain situations… wow,” said Gary Neville as the second half was about to begin.

Ian Wright added: ‘He’s the best midfielder in the world and he’s just walked off the pitch.’

While Lee Dixon said, ‘If you want to see someone’s backside, it’s him. That record goes with him now.’
