The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to-policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. The Center is Africa-based and African-led, with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, and a West Africa Regional Office (WARO), in Dakar, Senegal. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.
The Research and Related Capacity Strengthening (RRCS) Division at APHRC, through its Individual Capacity Strengthening Unit, is looking to hire a Graphic Design Intern. The Intern will support the “Breaking Barriers: Enhancing Participation and Quality of Experiences of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Postgraduate Training Programs and Careers in East Africa” study, specifically with graphic design and data archiving.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and layout of reports, manuals, and other printed materials.
- Create visually appealing and professional designs that align with project goals and branding guidelines.
- Develop infographics and other visual aids to enhance the presentation of data and information.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s degree program in Graphic Design, Information Technology, Journalism and Mass Communication or a related field.
- Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent tools.
- Basic knowledge of data archiving techniques and software.
- Familiarity with data management and visualization tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Tableau, or similar).
Desirable skills:
- Prior experience in graphic design through coursework, internships, or freelance projects.
- Experience with data organization and archiving, either through academic projects or professional experience.
