Police lob teargas to disperse protesters in Kware

Police have been forced to open fire to disperse protesters in Kware Embakasi South constituency, Nairobi.

The protesters had gathered around Kware Police Station demanding answers after several bodies were retrieved from a dumpsite opposite the police station on Friday, July 12, 2024.

Decomposing bodies

Several decomposing bodies have been retrieved from a dumpsite in a Kware near Mukuru kwa Njenga slums.

According to the Mukuru Community Justice Center, more bodies are still being retrieved while other bodies that were earlier retrieved by the youths were in sacks chopped into pieces.

“Bodies being retrieved from a quarry pit opposite Kware police station by youths. The police are on site as more bodies are being retrieved. Other bodies are in sacks chopped into pieces so far six bodies have been retrieved,”Mukuru Community Justice Center reported.

Some of the bodies had visible severe injuries although it wasn’t immediately established if they had bullet wounds owing to the state of the bodies.

The bodies have been moved to the City mortuary in Nairobi, as the search gets underway.

However, it is not clear who they are and when they were dumped there.

Call for investigation

Kenyans and public figures have called for an immediate investigation following the shocking incident,

“This is why we called for a thorough investigation into reports of massacres in Nairobi and its environs. We have today called for the sacking of the IG of Police and the Nairobi police commander because they will impede the truth from coming out. This is unacceptable.”
