Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Thursday, July 11 urged President William Ruto to give national unity and inclusivity priority when he appoints a fresh Cabinet.
In a statement released moments after President Ruto dissolved the whole of his Cabinet, Atwoli termed the move a significant step as Kenya stands at a pivotal moment in its history, a moment that calls for profound transformation and renewal.
“Today’s decision by President William Ruto to dissolve the Cabinet marks a significant step towards this much-needed rebirth. This bold and decisive action is a modern approach to addressing the grievances and aspirations of the Kenyan people.

“The Central Organization of Trade Unions, (Kenya), COTU (K) fully supports President Ruto’s move to dissolve the Cabinet. It is within time for the President to have a team that not only defends the policies of the government but also effectively articulates the needs and priorities of the nation,” read the statement in part.
According to the COTU boss, today’s challenges will require a Cabinet composed of competent and experienced Kenyans who are committed to serving the interests of all citizens and also answering telephone calls from members of the public.
This will be for accountability purposes and consultations as well as for scenarios when Kenya requires Servants of the People and “not Bosses full of Ego and hungry for Power.”
“As the President embarks on the process of forming a New Cabinet, we urge him to prioritize national unity and inclusivity. The new Cabinet should reflect the diverse fabric of our society, ensuring that it must be all-inclusive and broadly representative,” he added.
Atwoli went on to assure President Ruto that Kenyan workers stand behind him in this endeavour, expressing confidence that with a renewed and united Cabinet, Kenya can overcome the current challenges and move towards a future of prosperity and justice for all.
Atwoli’s sentiments add to the numerous comments Kenyans from all walks of life who penned their thoughts on Ruto’s shock move, the first time this has ever happened in the 2010 Constitution.
Eric Omondi, the renowned comedian and passionate advocate for Kenyan youth, who had earlier planned to visit State House with up to 300 people, revealed that he had to halt his plans following Ruto’s directive.
“And the Word of the Lord came to pass!!! For those asking why I didn’t go to state house today. You have your answer. Cabinet Secretaries were officially dismissed last night,” he stated on Instagram.
Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale was the first member of the defunct Cabinet to react to Ruto’s bold dissolution of Cabinet.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency President William Ruto for entrusting me with the role of Cabinet Secretary for Defence in the first Kenya Kwanza Administration,” he thanked the President.
“I am deeply honoured and will forever be indebted to him and the people of Kenya for this opportunity to serve our great nation. As the Quran says, “But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners” (Quran 8:30).”
