In the initial report this Friday afternoon by the local concerned, the victim, Jobert Dumanlag, a resident of San Emmanuel in Tacurong City in the not far province of Sultan Kudarat, died immediately from the bullet wounds. The killing of Dumanlag took place in Barangay Pupol in the town of Buluan, where the provincial capitol of Maguindanao del Sur is located. Buluan is the administrative capital of Maguindanao del Sur, one of the five provinces covered by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

It was reported this Friday at the Catholic Station DXMS in Cotabato City by Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region that 10 people have been killed in shootings in the province of Maguindanao del Sur since the nationwide gun ban implemented by the Commission on Elections began on January 12. This Friday, 11 people have been killed in Maguindanao del Sur, including Dumanlag. Based on Macapaz’s explanation to Station DXMS, Maguindanao del Sur has the most cases of murders with firearms compared to Maguindanao del Norte with only six such incidents since January 12.

Basilan and Lanao del Sur both have five cases of similar murders while one case of fatal shooting incident was recorded in Cotabato City, according to Macapaz. (January 31, 2025. handout Facebook photo)
