An 87 year old woman with dementia was tragically found dead after wandering away from her home in Mueang Chai Nat District. Despite the family’s two-day search, her body was discovered only 100 metres from her residence.

Phan Niamprayoon, who suffered from memory loss, went missing around noon yesterday, July 10, from her home in Hat Tha Sao Subdistrict. Her family immediately began an extensive search, checking places she might have gone, such as local transport hubs and police stations but found no clues to her whereabouts. The family was deeply distressed, fearing for her safety.

The tragic news came as a devastating blow when reports confirmed that Phan was found deceased in a grassy area by the roadside, a mere 100 metres from her home. The initial medical examination revealed a head wound and significant bleeding on her back, although there were no signs of a struggle. The police found all her belongings intact, including 17,843 baht (US$490) in cash, indicating that robbery was not a motive, reported KhaoSod.

Preliminary assumptions suggest that Phan might have wandered down the sloped roadside and slipped, hitting her head on a metal barrier. The severe heat of the day likely contributed to her condition, and she succumbed to her injuries after being unconscious for over 18 hours.

In related news, police are investigating the discovery of a man’s body found floating in Suvarnabhumi’s water canal in the Bang Phli area. A pickup truck with a child car seat was parked nearby and witnesses saw the man sitting on a bridge the night before.
