Blackpink singer Jennie Kim apologizes for vaping indoors after receiving backlash for viral video

Blackpink singer Jennie Kim has apologized after receiving widespread criticism for a music video showing her smoking an e-cigarette indoors.

The 28-year-old South Korean artist, who starred in a Calvin Klein ad earlier this year, apologized through her record label Odd Atelier, also known as OA.

“We sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s behavior in the content released on January 2nd,” the statement said, referring to a YouTube vlog posted to Jennie’s channel earlier this month.

In the clip, the pop star sits on a chair while her hair and makeup are done for a Jacquemus fashion show in Italy.

It continues: ‘Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets the mistakes she made by vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to staff.’

In the clip from the nine-minute video, called A Moment in Capri with Jennie, the star puts the pen in her mouth and then blows out steam.

OA also made it clear that the artist personally apologized to the staff and promised to “project a more mature and better image in the future.”

Many fans defended Jennie after the criticism via her Instagram comments.

“Please don’t listen, you are the queen and WE WILL SUPPORT YOU FOREVER!” someone wrote under her last post.

Someone else added: ‘I still love you Nini. We learn from the mistakes we make. Hopefully we can be more careful and better in the future. It’s okay.

‘THANK YOU FOR ADMITTING YOUR MISTAKE AND SINCERELY APOLOGIZED TO YOUR EMPLOYEES AND THE PUBLIC. I love you to the moon.’

There was also a note for the singer, which read: ‘You are not wrong and you don’t have to apologize to anyone! Just be yourself!’

One proponent reasoned, “At least e-cigarette smoke smells good. What’s the problem?”

Last December, Kim announced the launch of her music label, just before the new year.

She wrote in an Instagram Story: ‘This year has been filled with many accomplishments and I am so grateful for all the love I have received.

“I’m also excited for what’s to come as I’ll be starting my solo journey in 2024 with a company I founded called OA. Please show lots of love for my new beginning with OA and of course Blackpink.”
