KMPDU makes U-turn, denies cancelling today’s Occupy MOH protests

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davvji Atellah has dismissed an earlier post shared by the union regarding the suspension of the Occupy Ministry of Health (MOH) protests.

The union had announced that the anticipated protests scheduled for today had been suspended after discussions and commitments made towards ensuring all medical interns are posted in accordance with the 2017 CBA.

“We are suspending the occupation of Afya House. This decision comes as a result of ongoing discussions and commitments made towards ensuring all medical interns are posted in accordance with the 2017 CBA. We remain vigilant and committed to achieving fair outcomes for all interns,” the statement shared by KMPDU’s X account read in parts.

But in a response, Atellah denied the statement terming the statement as false, explaining that the union’s handle had been compromised. He subsequently assured everyone that efforts are underway to regain control of the handle.

“Dear Kenyans. Reports circulating to the effect that #OccupyMoH has been suspended is false.
The union handle has been compromised and we are trying our best to gain control of it and clean.

“We must overhaul the system including those that have hacked the union handles. We reman strong. We remain focused. Tukutane MoH,” he wrote on his official handle.
