PHOTOS: Gen Zs flock Uhuru Park to honour those killed during anti-govt protests

Kenya’s Generation Zs (Gen Zs) have turned up in large numbers at Uhuru Park to celebrate those who lost their lives during the countrywide anti-government protest.

Carrying the national flag, youths uniquely honoured the slain protesters.

Memorial Concert

Human Rights activists led by Boniface Mwangi have organized a memorial Concert to be held at Uhuru Park in honour of those who lost their lives during the anti-government protest.

He added that the memorial concert dubbed ‘ShuGenz’, will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 and urged those planning to attend to carry flowers.

“The ShuGenz Memorial concert to honour our heroes who died during the protests is on Sunday 7th July, from 12:00-7:00 pm. @SakajaJohnson has opened Uhuru Park and will provide county security. More details to follow. Tag a friend, an artist. Bring flowers,” he said.

Fallen Heros

Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), data released on July 1, 2024, reported that 39 people have been killed while  361 were injured during the countrywide anti-government protest

KNCHR data indicates that Nairobi County recorded the highest number of deaths during the protest followed by Nakuru and Kajiado while Mombasa and Nandi county recorded the least.

“The Commission in this report provides updates, observations and recommendations: Fatalities and Injuries: Data from our records indicates that thirty-nine people have died and three hundred and sixty-one were injured during the protests countrywide, “KNCHR report reads.

“This is cumulative data from June 18, 2024, to July 1, 2024. Post-mortems for most of the victims are yet to be conducted. The dead are from Nairobi (17), Nakuru (3), Laikipia (1), Narok (1), Kajiado (3), Uasin Gishu (4), Kakamega (1), Kisumu (2), Kisii (1), Mombasa (3), Siaya (1), Kiambu (1) and Nandi (1).”
